February 2017: Tips for Designing a More Romantic Bedroom February 15 2017

  1. Replace dirty laundry, stacks of bills, coupons with and all those pictures, candlesticks, decorations, and children's painting that don’t already have a place. Or if you dot have much stuff in your room just by simply straightening up the room you can feel more collected and relaxed.

  1. Draperies or curtains are a great way to add depth and a soft feel to a room. Think of unexpected places to use them like adding a canopy to your bed frame. Soft linen sheets catch the wind and flow can give the space an added romantic appeal

  1. Pick bedding that will give you a relaxed comfortable bed, making it cozy. Color is a great way to give the room the feel you are looking for. Gold or bronze as they are known to create an environment of romance into your bed. Red, black, white, blue and green are also some of the few popular colors that can be used. Also try adding more pillows, yea you might not use them every night but even just making your bed and having a nice clean slate can change the look of a whole room. .

  1. The color scheme you choose for your bedroom is as important as the decorations. You want to choose colors that complement your goals and what you would like to do in the space. "Decorate your home with the colors you and your family love. It doesn't matter what the latest trends are or what the fashion gurus think. What doesmatter is that you love your home and that your choices make sense for you and your family."

  1. Lastly, Take out the television.Spending time in front of the television keeps the attention off of your lives and onto shadows of life. Before you know it, your time together before bed slips away through the world of media. Just by the simple act of removing the TV, you open up free time to reconnect with your spouse in a special way without distractions.

January 2017 City of the Month New York, New York January 01 2017

Today more than 8 million "New Yorkers" live in the five boroughs of the large island city. The city’s diversity and vibrant intellectual life, makes the vast city our nations cultural capital. Many of the tourist that come and visit the city hit all the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – very few then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. I encourage anyone to indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer! All of which give an interesting out look on the life of a "New Yorker".In honor of the city Loose Petals is offering $5.00 off any non-sale city organic print size 8 x 10 or larger for the month of January 2017! Top 5 New Years Resolutions for Your Home January 01 2017

Here are some helpful tips and ideas for your new years resolution plans that aren’t just only for your home, but for your life style as well!

  1. Minimize and De-clutter
Probably the best and most profitable way to feel better about your home is to clear it of clutter. Either that means selling, donating, or throwing out unwanted and unused items. See our previous articles for better advise and more detailed tips. But think of this a purging all the bad and making room for the new and fun things in your life to come! Go room-by-room and think twice about what you bring in.

  1. Save money

Shrink your bills, that is, by reducing your carbon footprint you not only help the environment but your wallet as well. It can be as simple as remembering your mom's advice and switch off the lights when you leave a room. Or turning off your air conditioner when you leave the house and dial your heater down to 55 degrees at night. Try drying some of your clothes on the line and wait for the dishwasher or washing machine to be full before you run them. Also, as much of a pain that it is, but you can turn off your power strips and unplug any unused appliance that don’t need to be running 24/7. You will be surprised at how quickly all these little things add up and end up saving you a TON of cash!

  1. Learn something new (DIY)

Learning even just one new thing is great for your health and to help get those projects done around the house. We recommend starting off simple for the first year, and only tackling 2-4 projects. Be sure you don’t start something new until you have finished the last project. I promise it is much more rewarding to finish something than it is to have a long list of to-do’s.

  1. Be less stressed

Install Low-maintenance materials in your home everywhere you can. At first the cost might be over bearing, but once you realize the time and effort you will save just by spending a few extra bucks you will wonder why you didn’t do this before Fiber-cement siding lasts for 50 years or more. It’s weather-proof, and resists dents, fire, insects, and rot. But something on the easier side is LED bulbs which last a phenomenal 20,000 to 50,000 hours between changes, or about 18 to 46 years when used for 3 hours each day. Although the initial cost is high (about $40 per bulb), LED bulbs pay for themselves in energy savings in about 10 years. Or you can skip the fake hardwood floors and use a classic ceramic tile. It’s incredibly tough, stain-resistant, and impervious to moisture. You can count on ceramic tile’s good looks to last for decades on floors and walls without needing repair or replacement. Plus as an added perk you (usually) get a much better quality product and service from these items.

November 2016: Decorating for Holidays November 15 2016

Season’s Greetings
As the holiday season approaches you can start filling your home with a more festive look by following these few tips and tricks from us here at Loose Petals!
Happy Holidays!
1. Find creative ways to hang up all of the holiday cards that are sent to you by using clips or clothespins to string them along the staircase or tape them around the edge of a window sill to create a nice boarder and personal wall display!
2.Put a unique center piece in the middle of your kitchen island or use a creative bowl to put brightly colored ornaments to give your table a little extra sparkle! try mixing in elements you wouldn't expect like clementines or oranges and peppermint balls in addition to a variety of things.
3. If red and green aren't part of your decorating color scheme, lean on tones that complement your existing décor. Silver, gold, and bronze look right at home complementing any color pallet that is already in your home. Add a soft subtle hints of the Christmas colors by draping sprigs of evergreen garland embellished with berries and ornaments.
4. Speaking of garland, dont forget to decorate your fire place and mantle! Aside from hanging the stockings and putting out the cookies, use a festive candle arrangement garnished with flakes of snow and berries to give your home a well rounded look.
5. Make your own Advent calendar using lined envelopes and stick-on-numbers to transform a large bulletin board. Fill each envelope with treats the kids will love counting down the days to December 25.
